Blissful Bruises

Read Time: 2 minutes:

What is love?

It’s the man strangling you, tightly holding your throat
Pulling you closer each time you choose to go
DON’T GO!!! DON’T GO!!!

Why won’t he let go???

Whenever I’m about to get over him
He sends me an “I Miss You” text
I think to myself, WOW… What’s next?
I start imagining different scenarios in my head
Of Him kissing my lips and tightly grabbing my legs

He has his bate, he throws his line
Wheels me in
The sheets witness our sins
The shower, my pain

I clutch the last bit of my self-dignity
The parts of me that I know best
The parts that know I’m better than this
But, why not enjoy the short lived bliss?

Because, superficial love is better than being lonely
The hands of a beater are still human hands
There is still someone to hold me

You get so accustomed to not being treated as if you’re good enough
Overtime you start to believe it
Your standards, as high as the heels of your stilettos, now lowered
What he says goes as you realize you are a coward

You sit and pretend as if you’re having a good time
Making the same mistake for the one hundredth time
The difference between YES and NO is a very thin line
He probably didn’t see it, he’s a little deaf you know, a little blind

Well then, scream NO until he hears, fight back more often
Tackle your fears
It’s okay to say no
It’s okay to let go

It’s okay to stand up for your rights
And lastly, it’s okay to sleep alone at nights

Because I do not enjoy receiving love letters in the form of bruises

How can you say you love me
When you’re still….being….abusive
