Read Time: 3 minutes:

Pamela Jennings Taylor is a wife, mother, sister, aunt, nurse, writer, and has many more roles, typical of women.  She has a soft spot in her heart for mothers who, sometimes, have difficulty transitioning from the “Mommy” phase in order to learn to navigate the new role of “Mentor” to their adult children. This led to her writing the book, “From Mommy to Mentor – Parenting Adult Children.”

Pamela grew up in Birmingham, Alabama (AL), USA, in a single-parent home with her mother and brother, as her parents divorced early in her life.  She currently resides with her husband of 36 years, Kevin, in Pelham, AL. They have 3 adult children, Kevin, Jr., Gabrielle, and Jonathan.

Her interests include reading, traveling, family genealogy, decorating/crafts, spending quality time with family and friends, and of course, writing.  She has been a member of the same prayer group for 30 years and loves interceding for others.

Pamela has always seemed to gather her thoughts better by writing and has journaled throughout the years.  This came in handy particularly after her oldest son got into trouble and she needed God’s intervention.  She pulled out several of her personal journals, searching for a written prophetic Word that had been spoken a few years earlier about her children.  She knew she had to re-read and meditate on it to focus only on what God had said.  From that time, she sensed God was giving her words to jot down here and there and share with others; so she kept these random sentences in a notebook.  After some time, she believed that God wanted her to write a book, but she did not act on it for a few years.

Pamela’s procrastination ended while on vacation with 3 of her best friends.  During their trip, they visited a church, where a woman began prophesying privately to her.  One of the most profound questions the woman shared was… “God said, ‘Why haven’t you started writing?’”  Pamela knew then it was a mandate and not an option.  To force herself out of her stagnation, she decided to blurt out during a prayer group meeting, “I’m writing a book!”  She knew the prayer group members would periodically ask her about the book, thereby, holding her accountable.

Pamela’s own mother greatly influenced her by not only being a devoted mother and elementary school teacher but also because she wrote her thoughts in notebooks, as well.  These notes were usually in prayer form to God. Her mother’s parenting style was her model, so she decided early on she would pattern herself after her mother, whenever she had children. This experience was a valuable inspiration in writing the book.

From Mommy To Mentor – Parenting Adult Children was completed and submitted for copyright on April 4, 2019.  This was a significant date because it was her mother’s birthday.  Her mother passed in March 1988 from breast cancer.  The book was published and ready for distribution in the summer of 2019.  Inside the book is a tribute to her mother, Mary Elizabeth Henry Jennings (1932-1988).

About the book:

From Mommy To Mentor – Parenting Adult Children takes the reader from the early stages of being a mother to the end destination of mentoring adult children. As we, parents, grow and become more experienced in life, we have an ongoing responsibility to deposit wisdom, truth, and guidance to them.

Reading this book will help you identify what stage you and your child are in, and how to successfully move through each stage.  The primary goal is mentorship.

The reader will receive several key takeaways, such as how to:

  • Punt the responsibility back to adult children
  • Keep your relationships strong during periods of their bad decisions
  • Sharpen your mentoring skills
  • Teach your children practical life skills

This book reminds mothers that parenting is only a piece of God’s ultimate plan for their lives.  You can follow this journey for nuggets of insight, tools, and examples of how we can navigate through the process together…from Mommy to Mentor.

Over the years, Pamela has had to rely on the leading of the Holy Spirit to provide her with wisdom and guidance through each stage of parenting.  This reliance persists to this day because mentoring her adult children is ongoing. Her desire to help mothers will forever be her inspiration and motivation, and thus, the reason she began to write.

Pamela continues to write and, to date, has written Mothers, Mentoring Is the Primary Goal and Rearing Your Children Has Ended, Now Get Off Your Rear End, as a guest blogger for The Beyond Woman online platform.  She is currently working on a journal, focusing on God’s promises and a new book to encourage women (and men) to find their voice.  She can be contacted through her website: www.mommytomentor.com or mommytomentor@gmail.com.

Pamela’s book, From Mommy To Mentor – Parenting Adult Children is available through Amazon, WestbowPress.com, and other online stores.
