Years ago when I was in investment banking, and there was an influx of pyramid schemes popping up and investors moving their money into so called high interest yielding products. As an Investment expert I recognised from the onset that that the ability to continuously pay such high rates were not sustainable. I knew that soon the “bottom would drop out” as we would say in Jamaica and a lot of individuals, (my clients) could be facing financial problems. The result – people were locked up, individuals committed suicides, homes were lost etc. I share that to say when things are not real they do not last. Resolutions should be the support that gets us to where we need to go. Our focus should be on making ourselves and each day progressively better. Understanding that systematic changes are more tolerable and achievable over a “big bang” change that usually overwhelms us, while trying to change. We should let the focus of the New Year be reflective and sobering; understanding that if change should come then it requires different actions. Not the same ole, same ole, while hoping to achieve something new.
